2024/02/11 SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
- Joseph Wrobel, Facilities Manager
Scripture this week tells the story of a leper who came to Jesus to heal him. As the man begged, Jesus took pity on him. He raised his hand, touched him and he was healed. After he was healed, Jesus warned him not to tell anyone. The man disobeyed Jesus and went and told everyone how he had been healed. This made it impossible for Jesus to enter any town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.
As I sit and reflect on this scripture, I think about how Jesus did perform miracles but that was not the only reason he was here. He was here to spread the word of the Kingdom and save us from our sins. The people who heard of this miracle and sought to seek him out for healing instead should have desired to be a follower and help spread the word of the Kingdom. I, along with many others come to Jesus when we are in need of healing. Whether it's family, friends or one own's health we come to Jesus expecting a miracle. This passage reminds me to be humble when praying. There have been times where I have begged for God's mercy and healing for a loved one but we should not expect a miracle but understand that God has a plan for all of us. Whenever I pray, I always end the prayer with...."but your will be done. Amen". Jesus is not one to only come to when in need. He can also provide peace, guidance and comfort. Jesus is so much more than just a healer or miracle worker. It's important to recognize the miracles that we see every day that we take for granted and thank him.
