The Resurrection of the Lord / Easter Sunday

- Fr. Brett Williams, Assoc. Pastor & Dir. of Worship and Prayer Ministry

Happy Easter!

Easter Sunday is a profound celebration of hope and the call to live fully alive for the glory of God. Rooted in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, this day reminds us of the victory over sin and death, offering new life and eternal hope to all believers.

The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christian hope. As 1 Peter 1:3 declares, we are “born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” This living hope transcends the fleeting securities of the world—health, relationships, careers—and anchors us in the eternal promise of God. The empty tomb assures us that no matter how dark life may seem, there is always light and renewal through Christ. It is a reminder that despair does not have the final word; God’s love and power prevail.

Living fully alive for God’s glory means embracing this hope and allowing it to transform every aspect of our lives. St. Irenaeus famously said, “The glory of God is man fully alive.” To be fully alive is not merely to exist but to thrive in the freedom Christ purchased for us through His sacrifice. It means stepping out of the shadows of sin, fear, and inadequacy into a life marked by joy, purpose, and communion with God. Romans 8:11 reminds us that “the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you,” empowering us to live victoriously.

Being fully alive also calls us to reflect God’s love and grace in our relationships and actions. Easter challenges us to move beyond self-centeredness and embrace a life of service, compassion, and faith. As Moses urged in Deuteronomy 30:19, we are given a choice between life and death, blessings and curses—Easter invites us to choose life abundantly in Christ.

This abundant life glorifies God because it reflects His transformative power. It is not about perfection but surrendering daily to His Spirit, trusting Him to guide our steps. When we live with hope and purpose, even amidst trials, we testify to the world that Jesus’ resurrection is not just an event in history but a present reality shaping our lives.

Easter also reminds us that our ultimate hope lies beyond this world. The resurrection points to an inheritance that is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading” (1 Peter 1:4). This eternal perspective frees us from clinging too tightly to earthly things and allows us to live generously and courageously for God’s kingdom.

Easter Sunday calls us to embrace hope and live fully alive for God’s glory. It challenges us to trust in the risen Christ, who conquered death so we might have abundant life. As we celebrate this day, let us renew our commitment to live as new creations in Christ—bearing witness to His love, grace, and power in all we do. He is risen indeed!
