Support for Migrants

Catholic social teaching holds that people have the right to migrate to support themselves and their families. The city has been challenged to find shelter for the recent waves of migrants and community organizations across Chicago need more supplies to provide for their basic needs.

  • Please see further below about the Catholic Charities Soup Kitchen opportunities!

  • Learn about our Partnership with Catholic Charities to reopen the Madonna House for asylum-seeking women + children here!

    • Madonna House update 10/1/2024: Thank you for all your support of Madonna House! At this time, the current families are in the process of the transitioning out of the house and into permanent housing, with the support of Catholic Charities. Our mealtrain will continue through mid-October, to support the remaining families before they move out. Thanks to your generosity, all meals are covered through this time. We are so grateful for all you have done to support this partnership and we will be sure to update you on the plan for the house moving forward!

  • For further ways to get involved, please click here.

Everyone has a right to the necessities of life -- food, clothing, shelter -- as well as the right to education, medical care, religion, and the expression of one's culture. Please join us in our efforts to support and care for the families who have newly found themselves in Chicago.

Friday Sack Lunches & Hospitality

For many years, Saint Clement parishioners have generously prepared sack lunches for the hungry, which are distributed from the parish every Friday morning.

Before we distribute the lunches, we provide breakfast and hospitality to our brothers and sisters in need as they wait in line.

Get Involved in the Jesse Tree Ministry

Jesse Tree season is about to begin! Each year Saint Clement parishioners generously donate necessities and gifts to more than 10 charities as part of the Jesse Tree ministry during the Advent season.

Volunteers can sign up to help with tag making, decorating and restocking the trees, inventory, and gift delivery. Please contact Julia Keller at chrisandjoo@rcn.com if you would like to join in on the fun of Jesse Tree. Volunteer slot registration will begin November 2.

Thanksgiving Food Drive supporting Mission of Our Lady of the Angels

November 2 - 14

Our Thanksgiving Food Bags drive has begun! Thank you to everyone who picked up a canvas bag at Masses this past weekend. If you haven't yet done so, please pick up your giving bags in the back of the church this week.

Our drive benefits our partners in service at Mission of Our Lady of the Angels. These items will be distributed to the families suffering from food insecurity that turn to the Mission for help. Fill it with non-perishables such as:

  • Stuffing mix

  • Canned corn & green beans

  • Boxed potatoes

  • Cranberry sauce

  • Canned gravy

  • Cake mix

  • ...and any of your favorite Thanksgiving sides!

Along with filling the bag, we invite you to add your personal touch by decorating it or including a Thanksgiving note. Your kindness will bring warmth and joy to someone's holiday!

Be sure to return your filled bags to the vestibules in the back of church by Thursday, November 14th. Thank you for your generosity—your contributions will make a real difference in the lives of those in need!

Volunteers Needed to Transport Collected Items

We welcome volunteers to transport the collected items. If interested, please contact staff member Christa Kingsley.

Thank you for your support!

Please note, in place of our monthly Food Drive during the month of November, we invite all to participate in our Thanksgiving Food Bags Drive, as shared above.

  • Get to know the new parishioner and their hopes/desires for engagement with the parish and for discipleship in the parish.

  • Provide guidance, navigation, and invitations to parish events over the newcomer’s first 6 months as a parishioner.

Our Lady of the Angels

Our Lady of the Angels is located in the Humboldt Park area of the city providing resources to those who are materially poor and sharing the Gospel with those they encounter. Right now, Our Lady of the Angels is needing volunteers on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays.  Volunteer opportunities include working in the food pantries and after school programs.  At this time, they are only allowing for adult volunteers.  Please visit their volunteer page to sign-up!

St. Mary of the Lake service opportunity

Saint Mary of the Lake in Uptown runs a weekly soup kitchen on Wednesday nights. With the growing number of refugees from South and Central America, the needs of the pantry continue to grow. As a part of this program, volunteers also provide sack lunches to the guests at the soup kitchen. These sack lunches ensure each guest who comes to the soup kitchen for dinner may also have a meal to-go. Volunteers may signup to provide 5 sack lunches by emailing Darlene Kelly.
